Despite the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and global economic upheaval in 2023, Yeti Tool Director Ed Sells this week declared that “our engineers have created the best portable large-format CNC machine on the market.”
Ed leads the team of engineers responsible for SmartBench, the world’s first portable large-format CNC machine.
SmartBench has made a massive impact in the CNC sector since its launch, as Ed commented:
“We are effectively an engineering company intent on disrupting the CNC sector. SmartBench continues to do this, and the incredible culture at Yeti Tool nurtures a team of amazing engineers and software experts.”
The technical department has several high-level priorities that ensure SmartBench remains the best CNC machine available within its size and price range.
It runs its manufacturing facility in-house, to ensure that a two-week stock buffer is in place at all times.
Production support is provided through quality control and supply chain management, with the Technical Department also helping customers, as Ed highlighted:
“We also work with customers on a technical level to improve existing products and make future SmartBench models even better than before.”
Ed and the technical team also manage New Product Development (NPD) whereby brand-new modules are devised, designed and launched. This involves every function of the business and can take between three months to two years to be fully developed and delivered.
“Our NPD has helped us to retain competitive advantage in the CNC sector for more than six years, which is an amazing achievement,” added Ed.
The technical team are also responsible for supporting sales and marketing, which can include producing scripts and technical detail for YouTube clips, new product launches and innovations such as the hugely popular CNC Academy which gives free CNC resource access online for new users and experienced CNC machinists.
“I spend a lot of time training our young and dynamic engineers,” said Ed.
“They are keen to learn, and as a start-up Yeti Tool was not able to go out and hire a huge team of highly experienced engineers. As a result, we have student engineers working their way up within the business. There is an open-door policy and we are proud to have an energetic and vibrant culture.”
SmartBench has been innovative at every stage, and more growth is planned with more engineers coming on board to work within the technical team.
“The future is Industry-Specific Apps, to get to a place where the need for a computer is reduced.”
“It is a privilege to work with a team of competent and keen individuals,” concluded Ed.
