Spline shafts are mechanical components which allow torque transmission where both linear and
rotational motions are required. Dual material printing on the Meltio M450 allows the seamless integration of an encoder in a shaft forrotation and position measurement. The spline shaft is made from stainless steel 316L (non-magnetic) while the inserts are printed from mild steel (magnetic). A static Hall-effect sensor is used to detect the position and speed of the rotang shaft, by detecting the magnetic field of the embedded magnetic inserts. Because the mild steel inserts are completely covered by the stainless steel shaft, corrosion resistance performance of the shaft is preserved.
