At CTG’s request, we have developed, built, and commissioned a state-of-the-art, fully automated filament winding line for the high-volume production of high-specification composite fuel pipes. The new production line allows CTG to dramatically increase its production capacity, yield, reliability, and quality in the coming years, with the ability to place complex production orders for the equipment directly in CTG’s ERP software, translated by dedicated middleware.
Due to the increasing number of commercial aircraft produced each year and the ongoing quest for less weight, higher quality, and increasing yield, Crompton Technology Group (CTG), a part of Collins Aerospace, has invested heavily in automating the production of their filament wound composite fuel pipes, which they produce for a major aircraft builder. Our equipment is suitable for epoxy en polyester resins, and glass fiber or carbon fiber applications.
CTG and UTC Aerospace Systems have established an international reputation for their innovation, quality, and successful development of composite solutions across a wide business spectrum, from the medical imagery sector to aerospace and defense, automotive and clean energy generation.
In 2010 CTG contacted Autonational, based in the Netherlands, to develop and manufacture a solution to meet their challenge. At their request, Autonational has developed, built, and commissioned a state-of-the-art, fully automated filament winding line for high-volume production of high specification composite fuel pipes. The new production line allows CTG to dramatically increase its capacity, yield, reliability, and quality in the coming years, with the ability to place complex production orders for the equipment directly in CTG’s ERP software, translated by dedicated middleware.
The equipment can efficiently produce composite fuel pipes with a wide variety of diameters and lengths, making them extremely versatile and efficient. The production line integrates automated filament winding (including cut and restart), product handling, product curing, mandrel handling, mandrel preparation mandrel extraction, mandrel cleaning, and mandrel storage, in one compact, efficient unit. Furthermore, Autonational supplies additional equipment for automated cutting, testing, and adding metallic elements. During the project, Autonational and CTG have worked closely together. New projects are already being discussed.
