How 3D Printing plus Casting combine the strengths of both

Additive Manufacturing is the media brand devoted to industrial applications of 3D printing technology. Editor-in-chief Peter Zelinski has visited Aristo-cast in Almont, Michigan, to interview CEO Jack Ziemba and witness How Casting Plus 3D Printing Combine the Strengths of Both. A metal part that might otherwise be too complex for investment casting can be made with a sacrificial 3D printed ceramic tool, such as the one seen here in cutaway. Molten metal is poured into the ceramic shell. The metal solidifies, potentially trapping the shell inside, but the ceramic can then be leached out using for example a solution of potassium hydroxide.

Additive Manufacturing is the media brand devoted to industrial applications of 3D printing technology. Their editors travel the world exploring the ways manufacturers are using this technology to make tooling, molds, functional prototypes and end-use production parts in a range of industry sectors. They cover everything from 3D printing news and product releases to expert interviews and in-depth application stories centered around real AM users. Their coverage is aimed at manufacturing leaders. Editor-in-chief Peter Zelinski has written about discrete-part manufacturing for more than 20 years.
